A man from Rajasthan, named Guru, posted videos on social media where he assigned “price tags” to foreign female tourists and made derogatory remarks. These videos, posted on his Instagram account, sparked outrage online.
In the videos, Guru is heard saying, “She is available for ₹150, she is for ₹200, you can get her for ₹500 and this one is for ₹300.” These offensive videos quickly went viral, leading to widespread condemnation.
Social media users pointed out that the women in one of Guru’s videos were visiting the Amer Fort in Jaipur. The unsuspecting tourists were seen smiling at the camera, unaware of the derogatory comments being made.
A concerned citizen, Madhur Singh, tweeted: “Guys like these are the reason why international tourists have bad experiences in India. @jaipur_police should arrest this guy for harassing tourists and teach him basic civic sense and the meaning of Atithi Devo Bhava.”
In response, Jaipur Police detained Guru and initiated an investigation. They posted on social media, confirming that they had taken action against Guru under several legal sections, including 354 and 505(2) of the IPC, 66D of the IT Act, and sections 13(1) and 13(2) of the Rajasthan Tourism Business Act.
The police stated: “A reel is going viral on the internet through Instagram, in which the police took strict action against the accused who touched some foreign female tourists, behaved indecently, and made baseless false statements.”
Further investigation revealed that Guru had forced tourists to buy goods from his shop at Jaipur’s Amer Market.
The police assured the public that they are taking the matter seriously and will ensure such incidents do not happen again.
