A 55-year-old woman from Punjab was assaulted and paraded semi-naked by her son’s in-laws after he married against the bride’s family’s wishes. The incident took place on March 31 in a village, just days after the son eloped and tied the knot, according to the police.
Four out of the five suspects involved were arrested, as confirmed by Station House Officer Sunita Bawa. The victim, as per her complaint, was alone at home when the assault occurred. She alleged that her son’s in-laws attacked her and tore off her clothes before parading her in the village in a semi-naked state.
A video of the distressing incident surfaced on social media, leading to the arrest of the victim’s mother, Kulwinder Kaur Mani, her brothers Sharanjit Singh Shanni and Gurcharan Singh, and a family friend named Sunny Singh, according to the SHO.
