Kyiv, September 26, 2023 – In a bold and unprecedented move, Ukraine’s security service (SBU) has executed a drone attack targeting a Russian electricity substation, leaving several villages in Russia’s Kursk region without power. This action, carried out on the night of September 26, was a deliberate attempt by Kyiv to make Russians “experience for themselves what a ‘blackout’ is.”

The Ukrainian UAV dropped explosives on the electricity substation located in the village of Snagost in Korenevsky District, resulting in seven settlements in the vicinity being left without power, as confirmed by Kursk Governor Roman Starovoit.

A source within the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) stated that this drone attack showcases a new level of SBU special operations, emphasizing, “The Russians should understand that if they continue attacking Ukrainian energy facilities, they will face a harsh response. Therefore, I really want Russians to experience for themselves what a ‘blackout’ is.”

This attack comes just four days after Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmygal issued a warning regarding renewed Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Last year, Ukraine experienced significant outages following Russian attacks on its energy facilities.

Notably, this wasn’t the only success reported by Ukrainian forces on the same night. With the assistance of a covert domestic drone, Ukraine claimed to have obliterated more than $7 million worth of Russian equipment. Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Mykhailo Fedorov, announced this achievement, stating, “The secret Ukrainian drone is in action – the Russians are losing equipment worth over $7 million in a single night. The operators of the ‘Army of Drones’ have created a real hell for the occupiers.”
