Kyiv, September 23, 2023 – In a dramatic escalation of tensions, Ukraine launched a missile strike on Moscow’s Black Sea Fleet headquarters in Sevastopol, Crimea, resulting in casualties among senior Russian naval officers.

Ukraine has reported that dozens of Russian navy commanders were killed or injured in the attack, which engulfed the headquarters in flames. The strike occurred during a meeting of the Russian navy’s leadership.

Kyiv’s intelligence chief, Kyrylo Budanov, confirmed the attack’s impact, stating that “at least nine people, including generals,” were among the casualties. However, the information has not been independently verified by AFP.

Budanov refrained from disclosing whether Western-made missiles were used in the assault. Russia, on the other hand, has reported that one of its servicemen is missing following the attack.

This aggressive move by Ukraine underscores the ongoing tensions between the two nations, with Kyiv’s determination to reclaim Crimea, annexed by Moscow in 2014, remaining a pivotal point of conflict in the region.
