The incident occurred on the evening of September 21, 2023, at 8:45 PM in Saibaba Nagar, Chembur.

According to reports from the Mumbai Police, the assailant, identified as Rahul Nishad, who worked odd jobs in the local market, entered the 35-year-old woman’s residence, locking the door from the inside. The victim’s 15-year-old daughter bravely intervened, attempting to shield her mother from the assailant’s fury. Tragically, she also sustained knife wounds to her neck and hand during the struggle. Nishad was heard threatening to harm both victims as they desperately fought back. In a moment of sheer terror, the mother and daughter managed to open the door and escape.

The horrific incident took a tragic turn when Nishad, after the failed assault, turned the knife on himself, resulting in his own demise.

The motive behind this brutal attack remains unclear. Nishad was known to the woman’s family, as he had frequently visited their home during the pandemic to share meals. However, he had not been seen there for the past few months, leaving investigators puzzled about the sudden act of violence.

Fortunately, the woman and her daughter were rushed to a nearby hospital after the woman’s husband was alerted to the incident. Both victims are now reported to be out of immediate danger.

The Mumbai Police have charged Nishad with attempted murder, while a case of accidental death has been registered in connection with his suicide.
