Halle Berry voices her displeasure as Drake’s promotional tactics come under fire.
Los Angeles, September 17, 2023 – Renowned actress Halle Berry has taken to Instagram to express her dissatisfaction with Canadian rapper Drake’s recent use of her image to promote his latest single, “Slime You Out.”
The controversy ignited after Drake, whose real name is Aubrey Graham, posted an image on September 13th depicting Halle Berry doused in green slime. This image was originally captured during the 2012 Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards held in Los Angeles, California.
Berry, not one to hold back, cryptically shared her thoughts on her Instagram account the following day, stating, “Sometimes you have to be the bigger guy… even if you’re a woman!”
It was in the comments section of her post where one user directly asked for Berry’s opinion on Drake’s use of her photo to promote his song, which was released on September 15th. Berry responded assertively, saying, “He didn’t get my permission. That’s not cool. I thought better of him! Hence my post today. When people you admire disappoint you, you have to be the bigger person and move on!”
The question of ownership and usage rights arose when another commenter suggested that the photo was possibly owned by the photographer and available for purchase. They asked why Berry would be upset if Drake had acquired permission from the photographer and paid a fee. Berry’s response was firm: “Because he asked me, and I said NO, that’s why. Why ask if you intend to do what you want to do! That was the f— you to me. Not cool. You get it?”
As of now, representatives for Drake have not publicly commented on the matter. The incident has ignited a debate among fans and the public at large, with some arguing that Drake’s use of Berry’s image is a compliment, while others stand by Berry’s right to control the use of her likeness.
Drake’s upcoming album, “For All the Dogs,” is scheduled for release on October 6th.
