Agartala, September 25, 2023 – In a touching gesture, a five-year-old student from a state-run school in Tripura has donated her long hair to a woman undergoing cancer treatment at the Nagpur National Cancer Institute in Maharashtra. The young girl’s selfless act of kindness has captured hearts far and wide.

The heartwarming story began when the parents of Anusuya Ghosh discovered an appeal on social media requesting hair donations for cancer patients. They had been considering shaving their daughter’s head, a common practice in Tripura believed to promote better hair growth.

Anusuya’s mother, Sima Chakma, who is a school teacher, stumbled upon a post by a Bangalore-based NGO. This post shared the plea of Sanghamitra Shaligram, a 50-year-old cancer patient from Maharashtra currently receiving treatment at the Nagpur healthcare center, who was in need of hair for a transplant.

Recognizing the opportunity to make a meaningful difference, Anusuya’s family decided to make the generous donation. A team, led by Chakma, shaved Anusuya’s head and sent the hair to Sanghamitra on a Saturday.

She emphasized the significance of such small acts of humanity and stated that if they hadn’t understood the importance of hair, they might have simply discarded it, as is commonly done worldwide.
